Burundi
If you want to learn more about the rich history and culture of Burundi in the Great Lakes region of Eastern Africa, you should spend some time in the Burundi Museum of Life in Gitega and the Burundi Geological Museum in Bujumbura. Reconstruction efforts have taken place since 2006. Burundi is now part of the Eastern Africa Community along with Rwanda. Tourism is important to economic reconstruction. Highlights for visitors to the country include the Rusizi National Park, the palace of the president, and the Livingstone-Stanley monument located at Mugere. Burundians celebrate Rwagasore Day on October 13, Ndadaye Day on October 21, and the Republic Day during November 28. In addition, there is the University of Burundi, which is the only public university in the country.
