Cyprus
The Eurasian island country located in the Eastern Mediterranean Sea, Cyprus is known for its historical sites, festivals and beaches. There is a Neolithic Village which has been declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO and a variety of museums but what Cyprus is best known for is its monasteries, one being the Stavroni Monastary where women are not allowed to enter and its churches such as the Panagia Chrysospiliotissa Church found hidden inside a cave. The island has five major beaches and several annual events. The most popular being Phinikoudes Beach and one of the smallest, more quiet get away beaches is Agia Thekla. There are many art festivals that include dramatics with candlelight performances such as the festival Paphos held in the June, July, August and September months. Villages in Cyprus have festivals with drinking, folk dancing and various Cypriot crafts that can be seen and bought during the month of August.
