Haiti

Haiti lies on the island on Hispaniola in the Caribbean; an island it shares with the Dominican Repulic. The official language of the country is French Creole. Haiti is one of the most impoverished countries in Latin America, a fact that was made worse after the severe earthquake of 2010. Tourism in Haiti is almost non-existent, but beautiful beaches and coastal areas do exist and attract a few thousand visitors yearly. The land of Haiti has been stripped of almost all of its natural resources. HIV and other diseases are common. U.S. state department officials warn that travel is not safe in Haiti.
