The scenery in the island country of New Zealand is breathtaking and varies greatly between the North Island and the South Island. North Island scenery is dominated by white sandy beaches, bays, rocky outcroppings and sparkling ocean. Some of the most popular spots are Cooper's Beach, and the bays of Matai and Matauri. The island is also blessed with numerous waterfalls, lakes, streams and hot springs. South Island scenery was the inspiration and background for Middle-Earth in Peter Jackson's popular movie trilogy. The terrain varies from lush rain-forests, pancake rock formations. Once-dominant exports of wool in the country are being overtaken by dairy products, meat, and recently wine in the free trade economy.
