Palestinian Authority
The Palestinian Authority, formed in 1994, pursuant to the Oslo Accords between the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO) and the government of Israel, is home to a number of stunning and beautiful attractions. The most well known city in the country is Bethlehem, the birthplace of Jesus. It features the Church of the Nativity, one of the oldest continuously operating churches in existence, as well as Manger Square, featuring the supposed manger where Jesus was born. Natural attractions, such as the Dead Sea and the Jordan River, as well as Ramallah, the cultural and economic center of Palestine, are visited regularly by tourists from all over the world. The term Palestinian territories is also used to describe Israeli-occupied parts of the West Bank and the territory of the Gaza Strip.
