Sri Lanka
Sri Lanka is among one of the top destinations in Southern Asia for tourists. It has been home since 250 BC to many Buddhist schools, monasteries and landmarks such as the Dambulla Golden Temple which is now a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Sri Lanka is also home to two main traditional cultures: the Sinhalese (centred in the ancient cities of Kandy and Anuradhapura) and the Tamil (centred in the city of Jaffna). Additionally, this country is famous for its elephants, mountains, and rainforests. For water lovers, the island is also famous for the Rawana Falls and the Nilaweli Beach. Some of the festivals celebrated in Sri Lanka include Diwali, Tamil New Year, Ramadan, and the grand festival of Esala Perahera where elephants are adorned with jewels and people rejoice by dancing in their colorful costumes.
