Turkey

The ruins of the ancient city of Troy are among the most significant archaeological sites in Turkey which is located in Western Asia. The setting of Homer's Iliad, Troy was for many centuries believed to be a myth. When in the late 19th century, Troy was finally discovered, general beliefs about the accuracy of ancient legends were changed. The mound of Hisarlik, Troy's current name, actually comprises several cities. These cities were built one on top of another over thousands of years. Frequent earthquakes and occasional volcanic eruptions plague the region due to fault lines which led to the formation of the Black Sea. The country has a blend of Oguz Turkic, Anatolian, Ottoman and Western culture and traditions
